This family firm began as a small blacksmithing business at Nympsfield in the early 1840s. It expanded into foundry work, millwrighting and general engineering. By 1879, the company was based at Lightpill near Stroud. It became a major employer in heavy engineering and pattern making.
Daniels made and maintained machinery for many local industries including corn and flour mills, cloth mills, pin manufacturers and stick factories. During World War I, the company was involved in the production of munitions. Products were wide-ranging - gas plants, engines, injection moulding equipment for plastics, and pumps - used in mines and railways all over the world.
In 1968, the company was acquired by Unochrome International Ltd to make machinery for the plastics, packaging, rubber and electronics industries. After several takeovers, only a small service section remained. The firm closed after 1988.
