Benjamin Grazebrook

  Stroud banker. Gave Stroud its water supply from Gainey's Spring in 1769. Active in building Stroudwater Canal 1774-1779. Built Far Hill.

Joseph Grazebrook
1750-1843

  Son of Benjamin Grazebrook. Stroud banker and partner in Stroud brewery. Active in building Stroudwater Canal 1776-79. Lived at Far Hill.

George Holloway

 

Clothing manufacturer, philanthropist & politician. With brother Henry set up clothing shop in High Street in1849. Also established a factory in Threadneedle Street, where clothes were made by newly invented sewing-machines (1855). Established Stroud Working Men's Benefit Society 1875 (later Stroud Holloway Benefit Society). MP (Conservative) Mid-Gloucestershire (Stroud) 1886-92. Statue in Rowcroft 1894.
